A Busy Jazz Week Ahead

We are about to hit the busiest week for Jazz Band that we have had in a while.

April 12th - the 15th is going to be jazz every night.

Tuesday and Thursday evening we have rehearsal 6-8pm as per usual.

Wednesday we are attending a Jazz Festival/Clinic at Sterling High School in Stratford. This is a little different from the typical competition format. We will perform 2 songs and have faculty from University of the Arts then join us on stage to clinic and answer questions. Each band will do this with all of the other performing bands in the audience. Parents and supporters are welcome to join for what will be a learning experience for us all. We go on at  8pm. We will be back to the school betwen 9:30 and 10pm. I know this is a school night and a little late but it is not everyday students get the opportunity to work with the quality of musicians we will see at the festival.

Friday evening we are attending the Mainland Regional HS Jazz Festival hosted by Mainland HS. This is a more traditional jazz festival and again a late evening. We perform at 7:30pm with awards at approximately 9:55 pm. I do not expect for us to return until approximately midnight.

It is a busy week but should be an extremely fun and rewarding one for our young musicians!

Teen Arts Festival/Senior Scholarship

Teen Arts- April 22

April 22 we will be travelling to Appel Farm to take part in the Glo/Salem county teen arts festival.  Permission slips are available in the band room, in google classroom, and in the calendar.

The plan right now is to depart the high school around 8:30 am and return by 2:30.  Students will have the opportunity to take part in various arts related workshops throughout the day.  All areas of art will be involved: visual/performing/dance/theater.  So many areas of interest will be represented and it should prove to be a worthwhile experience.

Senior Scholarship

Scholarship applications are due May 6th.  The PPBA will be giving away 1 or 2 scholarships to seniors that have made a substantial contribution to the music program here at PHS.  Students do NOT need to be majoring in music to apply.

Applications are available in the files area of and in google classroom.

Mattress Fundraiser

This is a reminder that our Mattress Fundraiser meeting is this Thursday, April 7th at 7:30pm in the high school choir room.  It is very important that we get 40 parents to attend in order to make $300!  You will not be asked to buy a mattress that evening.  We just need to get the word out about how the fundraiser works, because referrals are what drive its success.  The actual date of the fundraiser is Saturday, April 16th
This year, we are increasing the students’ incentive to get referrals.  Referrals are people who you or your child has invited to come to the fundraiser with a flyer that you or your child has given them with your child’s name on it.  If that referral actually purchases a mattress, a portion of the profits will go to your child.  This will be explained in more detail at the meeting, and you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions so you understand exactly how the fundraiser works.
This is an amazing, unprecedented opportunity for your child to earn student funds.  If you don’t anticipate your child needing student funds (does not participate in marching band or jazz band or if your child is a senior), the profit reward will be paid out in cash!
Central Bucks South High School recently participated in this fundraiser – they sold 50 mattresses and made $9,000!!!
This is how it will work:  Every mattress is worth between $75 and $175, depending on the size and price of the mattress. That money will be split between the PPBA and the student who "sells" the mattress. The amount that goes into the student's account will increase based on how many mattresses we sell all together for the day.
If the PPBA sells between 1 and 19 mattresses, the student who sells each mattress will get $25 per mattress.
If the PPBA sells between 20 and 29 mattresses, the money raised is split 50/50 between the student who sells the mattress and the PPBA.
If the PPBA sells between 30 and 39, the money is split 75/25 in favor of the student.
If the PPBA sells 40+ mattresses, the students get ALL the money for their sales.
This is an amazing opportunity for both the PPBA and your band member – we’re counting on everyone to attend the meeting this Thursday, April 7th at 7:30pm.
